Check Stock for MICR Printing
The cost savings of blank safety stock over pre-printed check stock is significant. Blank safety stock also eliminates the security risk of storing and handling pre-printed check stock. And, in a disaster recovery situation, it is far easier and quicker to obtain blank safety stock.
In the U.S. to meet the ANSI paper specifications, the minimum basis weight of 20 lbs. for paper on which the grain runs across the width of the page (short grain documents) and a basis weight of 24 lbs. (+/- 5%) for paper on which the grain runs across the length of the page (long-grain documents). Paper smoothness (Sheffield) should be between 50 and 200 for all laser printed checks. Actual check width must be at least 6.00” and not more than 8.75”. Check height must be at least 2.75” and not more than 3.66”.
